You can now connect OnboardMe to the AI assistant you already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Once it's connected, you can ask the assistant to work in your practice in plain English. For example, it can add a lead and send them a proposal, draft an eForm, or tell you who owes you money.
Full technical documentation is at docs.onboardme.app.
Why it helps
Get things done in one sentence. Ask for an outcome and the assistant finds the client, picks the template and does the clicking for you.
Answers without building reports. Ask about debtors, onboardings or proposals and get a summary straight away.
Work where you already are. Stay in your AI assistant while you plan your day, write emails or review work.
Your security settings still apply. The assistant can only do what your OnboardMe role allows, and you choose whether it can make changes.
What is an MCP server?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI assistants connect safely to other software.
On its own, an AI assistant can only talk. It can't see your clients or send a proposal. An MCP server gives the assistant a set of tools it's allowed to use, such as "search clients", "create a lead" or "send a proposal". When you ask for something, the assistant picks the right tools, calls them, and tells you what it did.
Think of it as giving your assistant a secure, limited login to OnboardMe that only does what you have allowed.
What you can ask it to do
Here are some examples of what you can type into your assistant once OnboardMe is connected.
Leads and proposals
"Add Sarah Nguyen ([email protected]) as a lead from a referral, then send her a proposal using our Bookkeeping Essentials template with ID verification."
"Which proposals have been sent but not accepted in the last 30 days?"
"Duplicate the proposal for Acme Pty Ltd, raise the monthly fee to $450 and send it for approval."
"Preview next year's renewal for Smith Family Trust."
eForms
"Draft a new company setup eForm for Bluegum Holdings and send it to James Park."
"Which eForms are still waiting on the client? Resend any that are more than a week old."
Onboarding and compliance
"Start an onboarding for the Patel Group and add Priya Patel as the main contact."
"Send an ID verification to Tom Lee."
"Which onboardings are waiting on documents from the client?"
Debtors and billing
"Give me my debtors ageing as at 30 June."
"Who has invoices more than 60 days overdue, and how much do they owe?"
"Show me payments received this month."
"Get the latest statement for Harbour Cafe as a PDF."
Practice admin
"Add a new user, Emma Davis, as an Admin."
"Summarise my week: new leads, accepted proposals and completed onboardings."
Tip: Be specific about names, templates and dates. If the assistant finds more than one match, it should ask you which one you mean rather than guess.
Note: Debtor and ageing questions are only available to users with the Owner, Admin or Finance Admin role. Debtor management needs a payment vendor (Pinch or Stripe) and is free when payments run through OnboardMe.

Security first
We designed the MCP server so that an AI assistant never gets more access than a staff member would.
You sign in, and you choose the access level
When you connect, you sign in with your normal OnboardMe login, pick your practice and choose Read-only or Read & write. Your password is never shared with the AI assistant. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, the industry standard for connecting apps securely. Access expires after an hour and is renewed automatically while the connection is active.
Read-only lets the assistant look things up but never change anything.
Read & write lets it create and send things as well.
Your OnboardMe role still applies
The assistant acts as you. Every action is checked against your OnboardMe role, exactly as if you had clicked the button yourself. If your role doesn't allow something, the assistant can't do it either. Users with the Read Only role always get read-only access, even if they choose Read & write.
Sensitive details are masked
Tax file numbers and other tax IDs, Director IDs and other ID numbers, dates of birth and bank account details are masked in everything the assistant sees (for example *****123). They can't be revealed through the MCP server.
The assistant asks before high-impact actions
Sending a proposal, eForm, onboarding or bill, and actions such as creating users, AML checks, identity verifications and renewals, are flagged as high impact. The assistant is told to confirm with you before it sends anything to a client or does anything that may be billed.
Protection against hidden instructions
Clients can type anything into notes or eForm answers. The MCP server tells the assistant to treat that content as data and never as instructions, so a client can't trick the assistant into acting on their behalf.
Your data stays in your region
Each region (Australia and New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa) has its own MCP server, which only talks to OnboardMe in that region. Data isn't copied between regions, and a login from one region won't work in another.
Other protections
Logins and secrets are never logged.
All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS.
Requests are rate limited to stop runaway or abusive use.
Admin tools (such as managing users and templates) are hidden unless you are an Owner or Admin.
The MCP server uses the same Partner API as our other integrations, so it never has more access than the API itself.
Revoke access at any time
You can see and disconnect your own connections under Profile → Connected apps. Administrators can review and revoke connections for the whole practice from Settings → Integrations. Revoking takes effect within about 30 seconds.
Get started
Find your region's server address:
Region
MCP server URL
Australia & New Zealand
https://anzmcp.onboardme.app/mcpUnited Kingdom
https://ukmcp.onboardme.app/mcpSouth Africa
https://zamcp.onboardme.app/mcpIn your AI assistant, add a custom connector (in Claude, go to Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector) and paste the URL.
Choose Connect, sign in to OnboardMe, pick your practice and choose Read-only or Read & write.
Ask the assistant to "validate my OnboardMe connection" to check it's working.
Important: Use the server for the region you sign in to. If you sign in at
uk.onboardme.app, use the UK server.
